Areas of Concentration
The specialty of Family Medicine is broad and the opportunities in practice are diverse. Our goal is for all of our residents to be comfortable with this broad general scope upon graduation. With the addition of increased elective time for all FM residencies, many residents may want to concentrate much of their elective time into a single area. This is common with those residents planning to pursue fellowship training at the completion of their residency. Other residents may not plan on pursuing a formal fellowship but have a desire to gain a greater knowledge base about a certain subset of the broad family medicine curriculum.
In order to best address these desires, we have developed several targeted curricular options for our residents. We refer to these guided curricular experiences as Areas of Concentration (AOC). These AOC are not a requirement, and they do not add time to your residency. AOCs are meant to be an option for you to explore certain areas of FM in a dedicated fashion and with guidance from our faculty. Some of our most popular AOCs are listed below, but we also have had residents pursue areas not listed below. As long as the curriculum meets the requirements of the ACGME and our FM residency, we are open to partnering with you to achieve your educational goals. We want you get the most out of your residency education!
