One early morning, I was awakened by the smell of smoke in my apartment. Alarmed, I searched for the source and realized that the walls were hot, and that the smoke was coming from the apartment above mine. I quickly called 911 and ran outside to safety, with just enough time to grab a few possessions.

In less than an hour, the fire destroyed the place I called home. When I contacted my leaders to let them know of the situation, their response left me speechless. I wasn’t surprised when they asked about my health—it’s what came next that I’ll never forget. There was an immediate outpouring of genuine concern and support. As the hours passed and news of the fire was shared, more and more people reached out to me with offers to help. They were teammates, administrators, supervisors—people I knew well and some who I barely knew at all. It was so amazing to be embraced by so many people and helped in so many ways. I have been through so much, and I feel blessed and grateful to be part of an organization that lives up to its promise of being right here with you. At Cone Health, I feel cared for and looked after, not just at work, but wherever I go.
